ABOUT CHARITY HOUSE
It’s never too late to become who you were destined to be.
Our Mission
The Mission of Charity House is to assist men who are seeking a new life free from the bondages of substance abuse, addictions, and homelessness.
Our Core Values
At Charity House, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk men struggling with addictions and homelessness through the power of Christ and comprehensive recovery programs. We provide a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can find hope, healing, and the necessary tools to break free from the cycle of addiction and live purposeful lives rooted in faith. We believe that every person is created in the image of God, deserving of love, compassion, and a second chance.
Charity House offers a holistic approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of addiction recovery. Through evidence-based practices, discipleship, and a supportive community, we seek to empower men to overcome their addictions, restore broken relationships, and discover their God-given potential.
Our Story
Charity House was established in 2018 by the congregation of Charity Church in southwest Indianapolis. Allen Bridwell has been the full-time program director since 2019.
The facility is a former credit union building on Tibbs Street, renovated from top to bottom—a $450,000 estimate which was accomplished with $35,000 and lots of volunteer labor.
Charity House men work jobs, attend meetings and services, are regularly drug tested, and undergo intense counseling.
The loveWORKS program engages participants in meaningful work, teaches valuable trade skills, and provides immediate employment opportunities for the residents.
The men are involved in the community by serving in activities like the Annual Easter Egg Hunt (with 20,000 stuffed Easter eggs and attracting up to 500 attendees), the National Night Out Block Party (involving up to 350 residents), and the Fall Fest (with around 500 youth with candy, costumes, and professional wrestlers), and many others. Recently they served at a “Samaritan’s Feet” event, giving away 150 pairs of new shoes to residents of a local apartment complex.
The largest part of the building is used as a 24-hour “warming station” for our poorest neighbors during the coldest days of the winter season.
The Charity House facility also hosts a Monday 12-step meeting open to everyone, a Tuesday recovery meeting and meal for men, and a Friday Intensive Outpatient Program open to everyone (with a charge).
In 2024, the church purchased a house across the street. After renovation, it is now our Transitional House—a place for men who graduate from the six-month program to continue for up to another six months as they begin to rejoin society.
